Florida Firecats Name Dolezel Offensive Coordinator

Estero, FL- The arenafootball2 (af2) Florida Firecats named Clint Dolezel as their Offensive Coordinator for the 2009 season today. Dolezel played 13 seasons in the Arena Football League (AFL), most recently with the Dallas Desperados where he served as both the starting quarterback and the team’s offensive coordinator. He led Dallas to a 40-8 record over the past three seasons.

“I love the arena game,” said Dolezel. “I’ve been calling my own plays since 2001 and this is a great opportunity for me to keep doing what I love. Florida seemed like the perfect fit.”

Dolezel made a career out of setting records. He’s the AFL’s all-time leader in touchdown passes (931) and passing yards 44,559. He ranks second in career attempts (5,693) and completions (3751). In 2006, he became the first player in the AFL to toss over 100 touchdowns in a single season, finishing the year with 105. During the ‘07 season he became the first player to lead an AFL team to a 15-1 record while also becoming the first pro-quarterback to throw 800 TD’s. He bested that milestone last year becoming the first to throw 900 career touchdowns in any professional football league. Over 13 years he posted a career 117.75 QB rating. His teammates simply called him “GOAT” - as in Greatest Of All Time.

Dolezel began his AFL career in 1995 with the Milwaukee Mustangs, which was owned and operated by the Vallozzi family, current owners of the Firecats. “We’re excited to have Clint come full circle with us. He’s had tremendous success throughout his career and we’re thrilled to have him be apart of the team,” said Firecats President and General Manager Chris Vallozzi.

After two seasons in Milwaukee, he played for the Texas Terror (1997) and the Houston Thunderbears (1998-1999). He quarterbacked the Grand Rapids Rampage (2001-03) where he led them to an ArenaBowl XV championship in 2001 before playing two seasons for the Las Vegas Gladiators (2004-2005). Dolezel did not play in the AFL in 2000 while he was a member of the Chicago Bears. A two-time second-team All-Lone Star Conference selection at East Texas State University, Dolezel also lettered in golf.

As a former scout for the Dallas Cowboys, he’ll help Head Coach Kevin Bouis recruit and evaluate talent for the upcoming season. “I like to have one or two quick guys along with a go-to guy when you need that first down,” Dolezel said about the kind of receivers he’s looking for. “I also like to get it to the tight end down near the goal line. Expect the tight end to catch a lot of touchdowns in my offense.”
