Firecats Brown Sets New af2 Single Season Tackles Record

Estero, FL- Florida Firecats defensive back Levy Brown set a new arenafootball2 single season record while recording 10 tackles in Florida’s 55-44 victory over the Alabama Steeldogs last Saturday.

Brown began the night with 116 tackles, needing just 6 to break the previous record of 121.5 set by William Haith in 2005. Brown had that many at halftime finishing the night with 126 tackles and 1 game left to play this season.

“The records are great but they don’t mean anything if we don’t get to Bossier (city) and win it all,” Brown said of his individual accomplishments. “The only record that matters is our playoff record.”

Not content with just making tackles, he also broke up 2 passes, forced a fumble and recovered a fumble returning it 19 yards for a touchdown. Brown’s fumble recovery and score came just 90 seconds after the Firecats had taken a 28-23 lead in the 3rd quarter. Florida didn’t relinquish the lead the rest of the game.

Thru 15 games Levy Brown has a league leading 126 tackles and 13 interceptions (2 off the single season record). He also has defended 39 passes, 2nd most in the league.

“Levy is having probably the best season for a defensive back this game has ever seen,” Firecats coach Kevin Bouis said. “He should definitely be Defensive Player of the Year.”

The Florida Firecats will have some time to prepare for their final opponent of the regular season thanks to a bye week this weekend. The Firecats return to action in Manchester, New Hampshire Saturday July 28th against the Wolves.

Kickoff is set for 7:05 pm Saturday July 28th. Fans can listen to the game online at www.FloridaFirecats.com, www.NBC-2.com & www.ABC-7.com.

Florida will be looking for a win to keep their hopes of winning the South Division alive and along with it a chance to host a 1st round game at home. The Firecats also need some help from either Alabama or Tulsa against South Georgia; a South Georgia loss to either team and a Firecats win would clinch the division for the 4th straight year.

If the Firecats win the division they will host a 1st round game Saturday August 4th.
