Firecats Fans Vote for Favorites

Estero, FL- The Florida Firecats teamed up with the Lee County Elections Community Awareness Program (CAP) last Saturday June 23rd to host the 1st ever Firecats Fans Choice Election.

10 voting machines were placed around the concourse and the polls opened as the doors did at 6:30. Fans had the opportunity to vote for their favorite player and rookie of the year until the end of the 3rd quarter.

The af2’s all-time leading tackler and long time Florida Firecats defensive back Quincy Sorrell was chosen as the fans favorite player. In 5 and a half seasons “Q” has racked up 452 career stops including 62.5 so far this season.

Fullback Wallace House was named the Firecats Rookie of the Year. House leads the ‘Cats with 185 yards on the ground and 10 Touchdowns. On June 9th House set a new team record rushing for 91 yards and 4 scores against the Tennessee Valley Vipers. House ranks 3rd in the “deuce” averaging 26.4 yards per game, a feat even more impressive when considering he has only started in 5 games this season.

The Florida Firecats travel to Oklahoma City for the 1st time in franchise history to take on the Yard Dawgz. Florida won the only previous contest between the teams in week 1 of this season 55-22. Kickoff is set for 8pm EST.

Fans can listen to the game online at www.FloridaFirecats.com, www.NBC-2.com & www.ABC-7.com.

The Firecats return home next week, Saturday July 7th, to host the South Georgia Wildcats in a game that could decide the South Division champion. The Firecats took over the division lead last week while the Wildcats were idle. South Georgia defeated Florida by 11 points earlier this season and currently holds the head-to-head tie breaker. Florida has won the South Division 3 years in a row. This will be the Firecats final home game of the regular season.
