Firecats Make Additional Roster Moves

Estero, FL- The Florida Firecats announced today the additions of former University of Miami kicker Jon Peattie and the return of the Firecats single season sack leader defensive lineman Tyronn Johnson.

Jon Peattie finished his career in Coral Gables as the ‘Canes 2nd leading scorer in school history with 336 points. In four years as Miami’s starter he connected on 64 field goal attempts and added 144 PAT’s. After a redshirt freshman season in 2002, Jon converted 99 consecutive extra points before his first miss in 2005, which was the second-longest streak in school history.

“I talked with Jon a few weeks back about coming in and playing for us,” said Firecats coach Kevin Bouis. “We get one of the most consistent kickers in Miami’s history and he gets some experience that could help him move up to the next level in 2008. Adding Jon should give us a big boost in our kicking game.”

Tyronn Johnson played for the Firecats in 2003. He still holds the team single season sack record with 7.5. He began the 2007 season ranked 9th all-time with 22.5 career sacks in the af2. Prior to joining Florida in ’03 he played for the Tallahassee Thunder in 2001 & 2002. After 1 season with the Firecats he spent 2004 with the AFL’s Columbus Destroyers and portions of 2005 & 2006 with the New York Dragons. He was named Florida A&M;’s Defensive Lineman of the year in 1999.

“It’s great to have Tyronn back,” Bouis said. “He had a tremendous season with us in ’03 and he’ll add more depth to our already potent defensive line.”

To make room on the roster the Firecats placed kicker Andy Eminger on re-callable reassignment and also placed fullback/linebacker Chris Morant on team suspension.

The Florida Firecats host the Albany Conquest this Saturday June 23rd. Kickoff is set for 7:30pm EST. Tickets are on sale now. Call the Firecats box office at 390-CATS (2287) to reserve your seats.

The Firecats defeated the Conquest in Albany 56-51 in week 6. Florida is 2-0 all-time against the team from the Empire State. Of the Firecats remaining 5 opponents, 4 would qualify for the playoffs if the post- season were to begin this week.
