Firecats McKinney Awarded with the af2s Cutters Catch of the Week

Estero, FL - The Florida Firecats announced today that WR/LB Chris McKinney has been awarded the arenafootball2s Cutters Catch of the Week award.

In a 29-21 win over the Alabama Steeldogs, McKinney led the Firecats with 10 receptions for 105 yards and 2 touchdowns, but it was his 2nd score that earned him the league wide honor. In the 3rd quarter McKinney caught an 18 yard pass as he was being pushed out of bounds up and over the end zone wall at Germain Arena. He was able to secure the ball while crashing headfirst into the concrete floor behind the wall and hung on to the ball for the score.

I started stumbling as I went up for the ball, McKinney said. I knew the guy was gonna hit me but I dont know I was going over the wall. I was trying to put my hand out to break my fall, but my head did it for me. Definitely one of the toughest catches Ive ever had to make against the wall.

This is the 2nd league wide award McKinney has received this season. In week 3 he was named the US Army Ironman of the Week. In a 61-34 road win against Tennessee Valley he recorded three catches for 54 yards and two touchdowns on offense, had a 23-yard fumble return for a touchdown on defense, and also had a 57-yard kick return for a touchdown.

Thru 9 games this season Chris has caught 52 passes for 624 yards and 12 TDs. He has also rushed for 57 yards on 8 carries and 3 scores. On special teams his averages 17 yards per kick return and has returned one for a touchdown.

The Florida Firecats travel to Huntsville, Alabama to battle the Tennessee Valley Vipers for the 3rd time this season. The road team has won each of the previous match-ups this year. Kickoff is set for 8:30pm EST. Fans can listen to the game online at www.FloridaFirecats.com, www.NBC-2.com & www.ABC-7.com.

The Firecats return home next week for a pair of games beginning with the Manchester Wolves on Saturday June 16th. Tickets are on sale now. Call the Firecats box office at 390-CATS (2287) to reserve your seats.
