Firecats Bring In Gramatica to Kick Saturday

Florida Firecats Bring In Gramatica to Kick Saturday

Estero, FL - The Florida Firecats will bring in kicker Santiago Gramatica to replace Andy Eminger for this Saturday night’s game against the Tennessee Valley Vipers.

Eminger has been receiving treatment from the Firecats team doctors all week for swelling in his calf. He informed coach Bouis that he didn’t feel he could play Saturday night. “I talked with coach and told him that I am not 100%,” Eminger said. “I would rather take my self out now and let someone else come in to help this team than to try and go out there and not be able to perform. If I did that I’d only be hurting the Firecats.” Eminger will meet with team doctors again on Saturday to receive additional treatment.

“Andy has played well for us this year,” coach Kevin Bouis said of Eminger. “We will re-evaluate his situation on Monday. We had planned to bring both kickers in at the start of camp but Santiago pulled his hamstring just days before coming in. Now he’s healthy and the timing couldn’t have been better.”

Santiago Gramatica is the youngest of the three Gramatica brothers from nearby LaBell High School. A 4 year starter at the University of South Florida, Santiago holds numerous school records including most career points (246), most field goals made in a season (16) most field goals made in a career (38) and career PAT’s attempted (147) and career PAT’s made (132).

“We’re excited to bring him in and see what he can do for us”, Bouis went on to say. “I just wish it were under better circumstances. We are lucky that he’s still available.”

Gramatica has previous Arena Football experience having spent time with the New York Dragons in the AFL.

The Florida Firecats host the Tennessee Valley Vipers this Saturday April 28th. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30pm. Tickets are on sale now. Call the Firecats box office at 390-CATS (2287). Fans who can’t make it to Germain Arena can watch the game on Comcast MY TV8 or they listen to the game online at www.FloridaFirecats.com, www.NBC-2.com & www.ABC-7.com.
