Florida Firecats Make Roster Moves

Estero, FL- The Florida Firecats made a few roster moves before releasing their 22 man roster adding receiver Robert Gordon and af2 veteran fullback/linebacker Darnell Small.

Robert “Flash” Gordon – Gordon began his arena football career with the Orlando Predators where he won a championship in 1998. He is a veteran of 10 CFL seasons, having toiled for the B.C. Lions, Edmonton Eskimos, Ottawa Rough Riders and Toronto Argonauts before settling with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers for which he played for from 1999-2004. During his time with the Blue Bombers he also found time to play with the AFL’s Detroit Fury from 2001-2002. He returned to the arena gridiron in 2005 playing for the L.A. Avengers. Gordon has also appeared on the big screen with roles in Any Given Sunday, Invincible and We Are Marshall.

Darnell Small – Small spent 5 years with the af2’s Arkansas Twisters. He’s the Twisters career leader in rushes (240), rushing yards (945), and touchdowns (55). He also holds or shares nearly every season and game rushing record, and he holds the record for rushing touchdowns in a game, doing so four times as well as being among the team leaders in tackles, sacks, and fumble recoveries. He also played in the AFL with the Colorado Crush in 2003 and the Philadelphia Soul in 2006.

Gordon and Small have been placed on the Firecats refused to report list until they can report to the team. To get the roster down to the af2 required 22 players Florida traded defensive back James McCoy to the Lubbock Renegades for future considerations. The Firecats placed defensive lineman Greg Archer, defensive backs Matt Castillo and Maurice Lane and Ft. Myers native receiver Richard Washington on reassignment, waiving them from the team. Additionally the Firecats placed local linebacker Jason Allen and quarterback James Halliburton on recallable re-assignment Monday, allowing the team 48 hours to reclaim the players before other teams would have a chance to sign them.
