Firecats Round Out Training Camp Roster

Estero, FL- The Florida Firecats had the af2’s top ranked offense in 2006, averaging almost 60 points per game. This years’ offense could be even more lethal as the Firecats announced the additions of receivers Chris McKinney, Anthony Rozier, Donta Green and Carlos Ousley. Florida already has Magic Benton, Ethenic Sands and Brent Burnside returning from last years’ squad and has added local talent Richard Washington to the mix. Florida also announced the return of Linebacker Alfred Peterson and Defensive Lineman Keith Drayton as well as the addition of af2 rookie Defensive Back Mat Castillo.

Chris McKinney – 6-2, 215lbs, Guliford College; played with the af2’s South Georgia Wildcats the past 3 seasons. Was a 2006 All-af2 2nd Team Special Teams Player averaging 17 yards per return with 2 kicks taken back for scores. Finished last season in the af2’s Top 10 for catches, receiving yards and touchdowns after leading the Wildcats with 139 receptions for 1593 yards and 33 TD’s. He and QB Chris Wallace were teammates in 2004 with the Cape Fear Wildcats, the franchise relocated to Georgia in 2005.

Anthony Rozier – 6-2, 185, Graceland University; spent part 2006 with the Bossier-Shreveport Battlewings appearing in 7 games catching 31 passes for 298 yards and 6 TD’s. Rozier played for an indoor football team in Mississippi in 2005. He was a 2004 1st Team All HAAC selection finishing 2nd in the nation (NAIA) in yards per catch 23.8 and 14th in scoring finding the endzone 12 times on just 35 receptions.

Donta Green – 5-7, 175, Toledo; played for the Rockets from 1999-2002. Named the teams’ “Outstanding Special Teams Player” his senior year and is currently listed #2 all-time in career receptions for Toledo with 188 and ranks 5th in school history with 1,979 receiving yards. He received the team’s “Findlay Award for greatest contribution to the community.” He has spent time in the CFL with the Montreal Alouettes.

Carlos Ousley – 6-0, 190, Arkansas; after transferring from Wake Forrest in 2001, he played in 28 games for the Razorbacks from 2002-2004. Primarily a special teams player he caught 14 passes for 202 yards and 2 touchdowns while at Arkansas.

Alfred Peterson – 6-3, 265, Rutgers; played for the Firecats in 2006 leading the defensive linemen with 33 tackles and 2.5 sacks on the season. He was named the af2’s ADT Defensive Player of the Week in the final game of the regular season after recording 7 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery and a blocked kick. A 4 year starter, he finished his career at Rutgers with 142 tackles and 9.5 sacks in 43 games. Peterson received Freshman All-American and BIG EAST All-Freshman honors.

Keith Drayton – 6-1, 270, Georgia; has played in 34 games for the Firecats since 2003 collecting 9&½ sacks. Drayton also played for the af2’s Jacksonville Tomcats and Pensacola Barracudas; he has AFL experience with the Las Vegas Gladiators and the Kansas City Brigade. He played at UGA in 1995 after 2 years at Northwest Mississippi. Drayton then was signed as a free agent by the New York Jets in 1996.

Matt Castillo – 6-2, 199, Florida International University; played in 38 games for the Golden Panthers from 2002-2005 registering 102 tackles as a cornerback.

The Firecats begin training camp today with players reporting to the team. Practice begins Saturday March 10th with two morning sessions at Estero High School. Florida’s 1st scheduled team scrimmage will be held on Saturday march 17th.
