Firecats drop to 3-4 with 55-42 loss to Twisters PDF

(North Little Rock, AR) – The Arkansas Twisters used a second half surge to take command of an otherwise close game in route to a 55-42 win in front of 3698 fans at Allstate Field at Alltel Arena.

Both teams traded scores to open the first half. A Twisters missed extra point was the difference as Florida led 28-27 at half time.

Arkansas started the second half with two scores to jump out to a 41-28 lead. The Twisters drove 43 yards to open the third quarter with a score. Kyle Rowley found Rod Harper for a seven yard touchdown. The extra point gave Arkansas a 34-28 lead.

After stopping Florida on its next drive, the Twisters scored five plays later when Chad Cook ran the ball four yards for the touchdown. The extra point put Arkansas up 41-28 after three quarters.

Florida closed within six when Chris Wallace found Chris McKinney for a short touchdown play. The extra point pulled the Firecats within 41-35.

The Twisters responded by driving down field again, and scoring when Rowley found Harper for the fourth time in the game. The extra point extended Arkansas’ lead to 48-35 and Florida never got any closer.

Rowley finished the game by completing 22 of 33 pass attempts for 252 yards and 5 touchdowns. He added one rushing touchdown. Rod Harper continued his torrid receiving for the Twisters. The first year receiver caught a game high 13 passes for 150 yards and 4 touchdowns. The game also marked the return of Twisters veteran and former Arkansas State standout Robert Kilow. Lawrence Richardson returned an interception 44 yards for a touchdown. James Todd finished with a game high four pass breakups.

Florida quarterback Magic Benton completed 21 of 37 passes for 234 yards and 5 touchdowns. McKinney had a strong game by catching 11 passes for 145 yards and 3 touchdowns. Bryant Tisdale finished the game with an interception.
