Florida Firecats Fall to Fifth in American Conference Playoff Standings
Estero, FL- The Florida Firecats have fallen to fifth in the American Conference in this week’s playoff standings the arenafootball2 (af2) league office announced today.
The Firecats lost 58-28 to Tennessee Valley last Saturday night at Germain Arena to fall into third place in the South Division.  The loss ended the ‘Cats chances at a fifth straight division title.  At 9-6, the Firecats have the same record as Lexington, but Florida owns a better win percentage in common games over Daytona Beach, Peoria and Tennessee Valley.  The Firecats conclude the regular season against Daytona Beach this Saturday night at Germain Arena and can still finish anywhere from fourth to seventh in the final conference standings.
Despite the loss against the Vipers, the ‘Cats still clinched a playoff spot for the seventh straight year last weekend.  The only year Florida missed the playoffs was 2001, the team’s first in the af2. 
Eight teams in each conference qualify for the af2 playoffs, with games being played at the highest seed.  The conference winners will square off in the ArenaCup, the championship game of af2, which will be held at the venue of the participating team with the best overall record.  The Firecats hosted the ArenaCup in 2004, the year the team won its only
