Florida Firecats Fall to Fourth in American Conference Playoff Standings
Estero, FL- The Florida Firecats have fallen to fourth in the American Conference in this week’s playoff standings the arenafootball2 (af2) league office announced today.
The Firecats lost 59-47 at Boise Saturday night to fall into second place in the South Division, a game behind the South Georgia Wildcats.  At 9-5, the Firecats have the same record as Lexington, Green Bay and Tennessee Valley.  As the current Midwest Division leader, Lexington currently holds the third seed in the conference.  Florida owns a better win percentage in common games over Green Bay and Tennessee Valley.  The Firecats square off against Tennessee Valley this Saturday night at Germain Arena.
With a win against the Vipers, the ‘Cats would clinch a playoff spot for the seventh straight year.  The only year Florida missed the playoffs was 2001, the team’s first in the af2.  The Firecats can also clinch a playoff spot if Manchester loses to Albany, Louisville loses to Green Bay or Quad City loses to Spokane.  Manchester and Louisville play on Friday night, while Quad City plays on Saturday.
Eight teams in each conference qualify for the af2 playoffs, with games being played at the highest seed.  The conference winners will square off in the ArenaCup, the championship game of af2, which will be held at the venue of the participating team with the best overall record.  The Firecats hosted the ArenaCup in 2004, the year the team won its only af2 championship.
