Florida Firecats receiver/linebacker Chris McKinney has been named the US Army Ironman of the week for his performance against the Texas Copperheads last Sunday in Houston.

In his fifth af2 season, McKinney showcased his all-around talents for Florida in their dominating 56-14 road win in the Cats’ season opener.  The veteran playmaker scored three touchdowns, recorded two tackles, a sack and broke up two passes.

McKinney had four catches for 52 yards and two touchdowns.  He also had a four yard rushing touchdown on his only carry of the game.

This is McKinney’s third af2 weekly award of his career. Last season, he earned the US Army Ironman of the Week for his performance in week three against the Tennessee Valley Vipers.  In 2006 while with the South Georgia Wildcats, McKinney took home the Cutters Catch of the Week for Week 10.

This is the second year in a row a Firecat player has been recognized league wide for their play in the season opener.  Last year, quarterback Chris Wallace was named the Schutt Offensive Player of the Week for his week one performance against the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz.

The Florida Firecats return to Southwest Florida to open the home 2008 season against the Tennessee Valley Vipers, this Saturday April 12, 2008.  Season tickets and Individual Game Tickets are available now!  Call (239) 390-CATS (2287) today to reserve your seats!
