The San Jose SaberCats today announced the sale of defensive back Mervin Brookins by the league office before the Spokane Shock Championship ArenaBowl XXIII. team policy, terms were not disclosed.

 

"Mervin is a sport, fast defender is one of the men back in the Premier League," said head coach Darren Arbete. "He brings the experience of our team after winning a championship with the shock and are eager to help us this season."

 

Brookins, (5-10, 180) played in four games and registered 17 tackles to go with two pass breaks. On special teams, returning 16 punts for 291 yards with one touchdown. Brookins had 16 tackles and two pass break during the 2010 playoffs. He also contributed 11 kickoff returns for 201 yards, while recording an interception in the ArenaBowl.

 

Since the 2010 season with the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz, Brookins played in six games and registered 14 tackles, a pass and forced her to break two escaped with fumble recoveries. In 2009, played in six games for the Stockton Lightning AF2, recording seven interceptions, seven pass breaks and two fumble recoveries.

 

Brookins played at Bethel College (KS) of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics before playing in the AFL. He played at Sacramento City College (CA) before transfer to Bethel.
