The St. Louis Rams hired former coach of the Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels on Tuesday.

 The 34 years to replace Pat Shurmur McDaniels, who was hired by the Cleveland Browns as a coach last week.

 

 "We are pleased to announce that Josh will be a part of our staff," Coach Steve Spagnuolo said in a statement. "I've always recognized as one of the greatest offensive talents in the NFL. We believe it is a great addition to our organization."

The Rams have made an improvement of six wins last year on Spagnuolo, who will enter his third season.

 

 McDaniel was with the New England Patriots in 2001 to 08, and was personal assistant to the team that beat the Rams in Super Bowl 01. New England won two Super Bowls and four AFC championships in his eight seasons with the franchise, the last three as offensive coordinator.

 

 In the first season with the Broncos McDaniels, Kyle Orton (Notes) set career highs in completions, passing yards, touchdowns and passing rating, while tying his career low in interceptions. Orton 3,802 meters were sixth in a season in Broncos history.

 

 

Last season, the Broncos were seventh in the NFL in yards passing and 13 in total offense.
