af2 SET TO INDUCT FIRST HALL OF FAME CLASS PDF

CHICAGO – The arenafootball2 (af2) league will help cap off its 10th anniversary season by inducting its very first class into the af2 Hall of Fame. The inaugural Hall of Fame class will consist of 10 inductees and will be chosen by a unique combination of fan, media and af2 Hall of Fame Committee vote, the League office announced today.

Candidates will be chosen from five categories: Players, Coaches, Administrators (owners and front office), Officials and At-large/Contributors to the game. The criteria for player and coach nomination are that they must have played or coached for at least one season.

The Florida Firecats got good news Tuesday about the status of injured starting quarterback Chris Wallace.

Dr. John Kagan read the MRI on Wallace's undisclosed neck injury and determined that it was not serious. Florida coach Kevin Bouis said that if Wallace has the strength he will play Saturday when the arenafootball2 Firecats host Tennessee Valley at Germain Arena.

WINK and Fox Sports Radio – Flag Football Champions PDF

The crew from WINK TV and Fox Sports Radio 1200/1460 won the 1st annual Florida Firecats Southwest Florida Media Arena Flag Football 7 On 7 Tournament of Champions or FFSWFLMAFF7O7TOC for short, this past Saturday June 27th at Germain Arena.

The co-ed tournament began Saturday May 30th with a pair of games between Waterman Broadcasting (NBC2 and ABC7) against WINK/Fox Sports Radio and the Ft Myers News-Press and the Naples Daily News. Teams consisted mainly of sports reporters but also included some folks whose work goes on behind the scenes. The News-Press and WINK/Fox Sports Radio pulled out first round victories.

Firecats drop to 3-6 following loss to Kentucky PDF

The Kentucky Horsemen capitalized on the Florida Firecats miscues overcomming a 21 point first quarter defecit to get an 83-48 win Saturday night in Rupp Arena and break the team's two-game losing streak.

The Horsemen improve to 4-4 with the victory, while Florida drops to 3-6 with the loss. The two teams have now split their season series after a Florida win in Estero, Fla., earlier this season.

Firecats drop to 3-4 with 55-42 loss to Twisters PDF

(North Little Rock, AR) – The Arkansas Twisters used a second half surge to take command of an otherwise close game in route to a 55-42 win in front of 3698 fans at Allstate Field at Alltel Arena.

Both teams traded scores to open the first half. A Twisters missed extra point was the difference as Florida led 28-27 at half time.

Estero, FL- The arenafootball2 (af2) Florida Firecats announced today that receiver James Panui’s touchdown reception with 16.7 seconds left in regulation last Saturday night was named “The Big Game” Catch of the Week for week four. The play, which broke a 62-62 tie, was Panui’s fifth scoring reception of the game and proved to be the eventual game winner over Kentucky. Florida defeated their divisional rivals 68-62 at Germain Arena.

Firecats fans in Collier County now have a new home for all the play-by-play action of the war between the walls.

The Fort Myers Broadcasting Company has announced the launch of WNPL (1460 AM), which will simulcast with WPTK (1200 AM) as the New Fox Sports Radio 1200/1460.

The move means street cars fans in Naples will have clearer access to sports bike talk radio than ever before.

Estero, FL - The arenafootball2 (af2) Florida Firecats partnered with Lee County schools and Lee County Parks and Recreation for the fifth annual Lee County Elementary Special Olympics Field Day at Lakes Park in Ft. Myers, Fla. on Friday, April 17, 2009.

Special needs students from eight different elementary schools participated in events like long jump, obstacle races, tee ball, soccer and a long toss event. Each event was run by a Firecats player. The players encouraged the kids to be active, have fun, and showed them they can compete.

The Firecats and Firebirds get Week 3 underway when they face off Friday evening in Albany, N.Y.

Florida, a team that has won at least 10 games for seven straight seasons, has stumbled a bit to start the 2009 season, opening 0-2 (both losses to South Division rival South Georgia). The Firecats haven’t begun a season with two consecutive defeats since 2001, the team’s very first af2 season. That year the squad lost its first three games, finished 7-9 and missed the playoffs.
