Tags: Firecats | Release | Two From Camp Estero, FL- The arenafootball2 (af2) Florida Firecats announced today that, Linebacker Derron Thomas and Lineman Arthur Smith have been placed on their recallable re-assignment list. The duo is among the first cuts made by the team. Placing a player on recallable re-assignment allows the Firecats 48 hours to reclaim them before another team would be able to claim them. The team recently released Quarterback Omar Haugabook and Receiver Keith Brown as well. |

Tags: AF2 | FAME CLASS | FIRST HALL | news CHICAGO – The arenafootball2 (af2) league will help cap off its 10th anniversary season by inducting its very first class into the af2 Hall of Fame. The inaugural Hall of Fame class will consist of 10 inductees and will be chosen by a unique combination of fan, media and af2 Hall of Fame Committee vote, the League office announced today. Candidates will be chosen from five categories: Players, Coaches, Administrators (owners and front office), Officials and At-large/Contributors to the game. The criteria for player and coach nomination are that they must have played or coached for at least one season. |

FRIDAY, APRIL 10, 2009 – Times Union Center (13,901) 7:00 P.M. ET The Firecats and Firebirds get Week 3 underway when they face off Friday evening in Albany, N.Y. Florida, a team that has won at least 10 games for seven straight seasons, has stumbled a bit to start the 2009 season, opening 0-2 (both losses to South Division rival South Georgia). The Firecats haven’t begun a season with two consecutive defeats since 2001, the team’s very first af2 season. That year the squad lost its first three games, finished 7-9 and missed the playoffs. |

(North Little Rock, AR) – The Arkansas Twisters used a second half surge to take command of an otherwise close game in route to a 55-42 win in front of 3698 fans at Allstate Field at Alltel Arena. Both teams traded scores to open the first half. A Twisters missed extra point was the difference as Florida led 28-27 at half time. |

Estero, FL- The arenafootball2 (af2) Florida Firecats announced the addition of 14 receivers and defensive backs to their 2009 training camp roster today including former Florida Gator Tremain McCollum, Cincinnati Bengal Jerrid Gaines and Virginia Tech Hokie Josh Hyman. “Hyman was a big physical receiver for Virginia Tech, Gaines brings NFL experience and McCollum is a player who’s used to playing in big game situations in the SEC,” Firecats Coach Kevin Bouis said. |

Despite losing their home opener last weekend to South Georgia 54-53 in a kickoff classic, Florida rose into the top 16. The team was unranked in a preseason poll. Estero, FL - The arenafootball2 (af2) Florida Firecats partnered with Lee County schools and Lee County Parks and Recreation for the fifth annual Lee County Elementary Special Olympics Field Day at Lakes Park in Ft. Myers, Fla. on Friday, April 17, 2009. Special needs students from eight different elementary schools participated in events like long jump, obstacle races, tee ball, soccer and a long toss event. Each event was run by a Firecats player. The players encouraged the kids to be active, have fun, and showed them they can compete. |

Estero, FL- The arenafootball2 (af2) Florida Firecats announced the addition of eight linemen to their 2009 training camp roster today. Combining size and athleticism, the group of newcomers tips the scales with an average height and weight of six feet five inches and 323 pounds. “Arena Football starts up front, we made a point to get bigger on the line this season,” Firecats Coach Kevin Bouis said about the players who will battle in the trenches for Florida. “We’ll have a good mix of experience and young talent on both sides of the ball.” |

1-Magic Benton, WR (Univ. of Miami): Magic Benton once again had a dominating season for the Firecats. Benton ranks among the best receivers in the af2 at 4th in receiving yards, 8th in receiving yards/game, and 10th in the league in receptions. Magic was honored as the Schutt Offensive Player of the Game in week 12 against Manchester. Benton became the af2’s 1st player to score 1000 career points. Benton is the leagues most prolific receiver holding records for receptions, receiving yards and touchdown receptions. He is the only player that was featured on the Firecats’ original roster.
